EU prolongs individual sanctions against Russia for 6 months

BRUSSELS, Sep 14 (PRIME) -- The E.U. Council has officially prolonged individual sanctions against Russia and Ukraine for a further six months, until March 15, 2018, the council said on Thursday.

“On 14 September 2017, the Council prolonged the restrictive measures over actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine for a further six months, until 15 March 2018,” the council said.

The measures consist of asset freezes and travel bans.

The list was reviewed and the council removed four deceased persons from the list of persons subject to these restrictive measures. The restrictive measures now apply to 149 persons and 38 entities.

The sanctions were imposed in March 2014 against Russian and Ukrainian individuals and companies that the E.U. says are guilty of disrupting the territorial integrity of Ukraine. The E.U. has been regularly prolonging the sanctions for six months since then.
